ByteBox Camera press kit
ByteBox Camera is an iPhone camera that shoots square and wide instant film with handwritten captions, live ASCII, 8-bit and 16-bit pixel art (with a full-color Handheld mode), storybook illustrations and pixel avatars in any size from 16 to 1024, then lets you edit it pixel by pixel.
Short description
ByteBox Camera packs six retro lenses into one iPhone app: Instant (classic square or wide, with handwritten captions), ASCII (live, shareable as real, editable text), 8-bit (with a full-color Handheld mode) and 16-bit pixel art, Cel and Icon. Import any photo as editable pixel art, touch it up in the pixel editor, remix photos by pasting pixel art into any shot, and share hi-res or true-to-pixel.
About
ByteBox Camera is the debut iPhone app from Void Research, an independent studio. Point the camera and the viewfinder renders live in the lens you choose: a white-border instant print, classic square or wide, that you caption by hand; live ASCII you can share as an image or as real text; chunky 8-bit or detailed 16-bit pixel art, including 8-bit's Handheld mode, a 1998 handheld camera look at 128×112 in Original (green), grayscale or full color; storybook illustrations with hand-drawn color and inked outlines; or a pixel avatar from 16×16 up to 1024×1024. Any photo in your library can become editable pixel art. Share in Modern (hi-res) or Native (true-to-pixel and ASCII text). Free to shoot. A one-time $4.99 unlock adds full export and sharing. No subscription.
