ByteBox Camera Privacy Policy

Effective November 10, 2026

ByteBox Camera is made by Void Research. This policy describes the iPhone app ByteBox Camera.

The app turns the camera, and photos you import, into pixel art and ASCII art on your phone. Void Research does not operate an account for the app and does not receive your pictures, contacts, or messages. Void Research has no access to your photos.

Camera and photos

The camera is used to make images. You can import a photo from your library and save an export back to your library or to a folder you choose in Files. Pictures and projects are stored in the app on your phone. The app does not read photo location data. It also does not use the microphone.

To share a picture to TikTok, the app first saves it to your photo library, because TikTok opens it from there.

iCloud sync

ByteBox Camera syncs your pictures and projects through your own private iCloud account, so they appear on your other Apple devices. Apple stores that copy under Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policy. Void Research has no access to your iCloud data or to your photos, and no other company is involved in sync. Your saved contact list is not part of iCloud sync.

Contacts and sending

If you choose a person to send a picture to, the app reads the contacts you allow and keeps a short list on the phone: the name, the phone number, and a contact photo when one is available. That list is there so you can send to the same person again. It is stored only on your phone. It is never synced to iCloud and never sent to Void Research or anyone else.

When you send, the picture and any note you wrote are handed to Messages, or to another app you pick, or to the iOS share sheet. From that point, Apple or the app you chose handles the message under its own policy. Void Research does not run that delivery and does not keep a copy.

Sharing to Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok

ByteBox Camera includes optional one-tap sharing for Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook (Meta), and TikTok, plus the standard iOS share sheet. Those companies’ tools are included in the app and may exchange limited technical data, such as diagnostic data, with their own servers. That exchange is covered by each company’s privacy policy: Snap (https://values.snap.com/privacy/privacy-policy), Meta (https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy), and TikTok (https://www.tiktok.com/legal/privacy-policy). Void Research does not receive that data. Meta’s automatic event logging is turned off, and the app does not collect the advertising identifier. Nothing is linked to your identity by us, and the app does not track you.

Purchases

Sharing and export are a one-time purchase, processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple’s privacy policy covers payment and your Apple ID. Void Research does not receive your card number.

What Void Research does not do

Void Research does not sell personal information. Void Research does not collect analytics, does not use your information for advertising, and does not track you. Third-party sharing tools are covered by those companies’ privacy policies, as described above. The app does not ask for an account, and it does not send your pictures, contacts, or messages to Void Research. Void Research has no access to your photos.

Children

ByteBox Camera is intended for a general audience and may be used at any age. It is not directed to children under 13, and Void Research does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You can delete a picture inside the app. You can turn off Camera, Photos, or Contacts for ByteBox Camera in iOS Settings. Deleting the app removes the pictures, the saved contact list, and settings stored by the app on that phone. Copies synced to iCloud stay in your iCloud account until you delete them in iOS Settings, under your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage. Your App Store purchase remains with your Apple ID, and Restore Purchases can turn sharing and export back on after a reinstall.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
